ECOOM–STORE conducts policy-relevant scientific research into the consequences of shocks in global value chains and local production networks, the effectiveness and efficiency of economic policy, and the implications of regional, federal and supranational (strategic) industrial policy for the economic outcomes of Flemish firms. In doing so, it relies on the latest insights from the literatures on granularity, networks, and causal inference, and employs microdata to empirically test their theoretical predictions. Simulation models combine both elements in the design, implementation and evaluation of Flemish economic policy.
In addition, ECOOM–STORE delves into thematic subjects such as the greening of the economy or the impact of Artificial Intelligence on firm-level outcomes and computes a coherent set of economic indicators in support of Flemish cluster policy. It also performs short-term assignments on behalf of interested parties, such as the effect of the Flemish COVID relief program for affected firms (VLAIO), or the extent of foreign ownership in the domestic economy (WEWIS). For more details and studies, we kindly refer the reader to the publications collected under the ECOOM–STORE token on this website.
